Walk for Truth – Community Events

To June 18, 2025

Join us for a series of community events along the route of the Walk for Truth. These gatherings provide a meaningful opportunity for all community members to talk together about the work of Victoria’s first truth-telling commission. You’ll also hear from local community leaders as they share the rich history and culture of their region.

Geelong Community Event

When: Wednesday 11 June, 6pm

Where: National Indigenous Knowledges Education Research Innovation Institute (NIKERII) Deakin University, Geelong.

Join us on Wadawurrung Country for an important discussion with Commissioner Travis Lovett, Peter Sharp – a great grandson of former Prime Minister Alfred Deakin, and others.

Footscray Community Event

When: Monday 16 June, 2pm

Where:Footscray Community Arts Centre

Join us on Wurundjeri Country for an important discussion with Commissioner Travis Lovett, and community leaders about the importance of truth telling.

Whitten Oval Community Event, Footscray

When: June 17th, 9am-10.30am

Where: Whitten Oval, 417 Barkly Street, Footscray

Join us at Whitten Oval for ceremony and a message stick exchange with Wurundjeri Traditional Owners and Commissioner Lovett. There will also be the opportunity to hear from a panel including Wotjobaluk and Dja Dja Wurrung woman and Western Bulldogs Director Belinda Duarte, Commissioner Travis Lovett and Wurundjeri Elders. Tea, coffee and a light breakfast will also be provided.

Where: The Walk for Truth concludes at the steps of Parliament House.
